We came home, freshened up, and walked to the corner where we met Brian and Kristin Miller for dinner at GoWasabi. The sushi was sooo so good. After a very enjoyable time there, we headed two doors down to Sweet Afton, the new bar that just opened on our block. Tristan had been eyeing the boarded up building since we moved in and finally a few weeks ago they unveiled themselves. Since, Trist has very excitedly watched them put all the finishing touches in place-- windows, doors, candles... and could not wait to try it. We talked to one of the owners last week (a very heavy accented late 20s Irish man), who got Tristan pumped up for their 12 beers on tap. It was PACKED! Only day 3 of being "open" (their grand opening is today actually), and business is already booming. They boasted exposed brick, timber from fallen trees in Asia, old olive barrels, and a really nice crowd too.
Saturday: Since we've been carsitting for a friend this week, who told us we're welcome to use it if we want as well, we decided to drive down to Coney Island for the afternoon and check out the Aquarium. It's pretty small, but we saw some awesome little creatures and a fun little pinnipeds show. It was no SeaWorld, but it was really cute. I think my favorite things there were the Seahorses and the Jellyfish.
Sunday: Second service church and brunch with The Kurlbaums. We didn't know where to go, so we just wandered around until we found something good. We ended up at The Lantern in Gramercy and had a delicious Thai lunch. Their bathrooms were really interesting... their sink was this thin panel of white rocks and the faucet ran down the mirror with alternating pipes that carried the water down. It took about 10 seconds for it to get to you. Pretty looking though.
After lunch we walked up to Harold Square and sat around the new little patio areas on Broadway and had ice coffees from Tim Horton's. Ryan didn't know they were in the city (they're a Canadian company), so he was pretty pumped to hear about them, and Tristan of course couldn't resist an opportunity for a trip to Timmy Ho's. ;)
