Tuesday: Dinner with Jacob & Tomi.
We went to this restaurant we've been wanting to try. We walked past it one weekend on our way home from the park and saw this huuuge line standing outside of it. We thought there was an event there until we realized it was just the wait line for dinner. We looked it up on Yelp and saw raving reviews, so we finally tried it. Tristan loved it, I thought it was mediocre at best. I got the Fillet stuffed witih crabmeat (this dish is excellent at Brick around the corner from us). He got the Bass. After dinner we went to this little cafe by our apartment and lounged around with a bottle of wine. Great night.
Jon & Joan arrived in town from Maryland for a week. They stayed in Long Island at Jon's co-worker's, slash friend's house, but stopped by to see us and to have dinner. We grabbed food at the Taco Truck and ate with them at our place for about an hour before they left for their last trek of their drive.
Thursday: Video gaming.
The Seahafers weren't going to be able to come to his birthday dinner because of an out of town wedding, so Russ came over to play video games with him for a couple hours. They had so much fun. I played Settlers online for the first half and kept them company. It was fully entertaining watching their wiggly tongues while they made their men run around shooting people and the sound effects they would make if they made something explode, their "gaming faces." haha. The second half they switched games to "Little Big Planet" (a game Trist bought because he thought I'd like it; he's so cute) and we all played together. It was really fun. You get to design your own character and pick up different costume pieces along the way...
Friday: Dinner party.
We had a few couples over for a birthday dinner. Tristan requested Shrimp & Scallop Scampi. Joany is allergic to shellfish though (and doesn't like other seafood anyway), so I made chicken scampi for her and Kristin, another non-seafood-lover. Everything was a hit! Appetizers were various bread/toppings-- Cheese crisps bread, olive oil and parmesan seasoning, and hot peppers. I was supposed to make baked clams too, but I forgot. boo. As a side I made baked asparagus wrapped in prosciutto and garlic & herb cheese spread. For dessert was his favorite cake, Red Velvet. Sadly, I forgot to put his candles on his cake until after we ate, so we sang Happy Birthday to one candle on the left over piece. =( Of course he didn't care though. Everything was a huge hit and the night was a ton of fun!
This outing was a specific request of Trist's. I think he was dying to get some sun and hope for some good weather and so we could escape from all this rain. Luckily, the weather was GORGEOUS (the one day in the last 3 weeks, literally, it hasn't rained... well, it started raining on our way home that evening, but at least it held out til then). We went to Jones Beach with the Gilberts and found out the night before that the Millers also had Jones Beach plans that day, so they joined us. We laid out for a few hours and played in the waves (yes even ME!). The boys threw a football around and us girls read our books. Bella was super hot. She kept trying to find little patches of shade wherever she could... a sliver by her bag, a patch by the cooler, but her favorite was when someone was sitting up on their blanket, she was run and plop behind them in their shadow. haha. I finally dug a little trench for her in the sand to cool herself off, which gave me the idea of burying someone. Tristan wasn't interested in the idea, and surprisingly neither was anyone else. =) ...So I buried Bella! haha. She actually liked it though! I think it really cooled her off. After the beach we went to Jon's co-worker's place where they were staying, whose place is on the water with a great outdoor area and grill. We picked up some stuff to grill at the grocery store (that place was REALLY nice compared to stores here in the city! They even had motion sensor lights on the fridges!). The burgers were delish! We took a little nap when we got home and then went out to a local pub that night to meet up with Ryan Colosi (Tristan's buddy from Grand Island, and a fellow friend of ours now in Forefront) for his going away party (he's moving to Japan for two years for a military program for dentistry. Long day, but very fulfilling.
