Last year hubby's sister Ginny was down visiting us and had a friend from Massachusetts that wanted to come down and see her. The friend had come straight from a brew festival of some sort and brought us this awesome looking growler of beer. A Porter, we later found out. It was so delicious, we decided to try and look it up... only to discover they only sell in MA, CT, and randomly FL. We kept the empty growler.
Saturday I surprised hubby with a day trip to the brewery of said beer, in Massachusetts. They also have a steakhouse. Bonus! I borrowed a car from our friend Samantha and coordinated for friends Russ & Sarah to join us. The day before I told him I had a surprise for him. On our way home from work we were looking at something on my phone together when a text from Sam popped up about the car being ready. "Oooh, what's the car for Miss? Where are we going?" He couldn't stop asking me questions, trying to guess.
Saturday morning I made him wait all afternoon (we left a little after 2pm) and then the full 3 hour drive, until we pulled up to our destination at 6pm. It was great, this place is literally in the middle of Nowhere's Town, so Trist had no clue where we were going. He's usually good at guessing and spoiling surprises (ie, endings of movies), but I had him stumped. On his list were sporting event, wine tour, concert, Long Island, Boston, and a casino in Connecticut. His best guess during our final mile stretch was that maybe we were visiting some random old friend.
The long drive was definitely worth it though and he was pretty satisfied with the surprise. We got a private tour of the brewery,
sampled some really good beers,
and had pretty amazing food.
We took two growlers back with us. An Ale and a Porter (the one that originally drew us there).
We also decided we should make the trip an annual event. The plan is next year we'll do a weekend trip, stay at a nice Bed & Breakfast, and maybe hit up some fishing.
